Design, pilot, and deploy ethical, locally governed AI solutions that improve access, efficiency, and equity in Kenya’s justice system—expanding access to legal information, reducing backlogs, enabling multilingual participation through transcription/translation, and supporting responsible AI adoption aligned with national and judiciary frameworks.
IDI's Role & Contribution
Under Action Lab, IDI provides technical and design leadership—leading user-centred co-creation, supporting development and testing of locally relevant AI models, strengthening governance and ethical safeguards, coordinating cross-sector partners, and supporting capacity building plus monitoring and learning for sustainable scale.
Our Approach
A phased, collaborative model anchored in the AI Policy Framework: assess judicial workflows and user needs, co-design and pilot tools (e.g., AI legal research assistants and multilingual transcription), strengthen governance/data protection/oversight, train users, and iterate from pilot learning toward responsible scale-up.
